In her interview with Rap-Up the listeners discussed Cara's self-love journey and her fears. Cara is known for her messages on emotional health, kindness, and self-love in her songs. The inspiration for her music is derived from her own struggle to conquer mental health issues and insomnia. According to a Reuters interview, the album is described as semi-tumultuous and half-perfected. She claims she has grown through therapy, and encourages others to seek help when necessary. Alessia Cara grew up in Toronto, Canada. She was born July 11, 1996 to parents of Italian descent. Her parents gifted her with an instrument when she was 10 and this ignited her love for music. She started covering her favourite songs at age 13 to prove to the world she could sing and had the determination required to be a singer. Sweater Weather is one of those covers that led to her being noticed at the time by EP Entertainment. This record label allowed her create the songs she wrote herself.
