Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public talker. She founded Feminist Frequency an online platform that provides commentary and videos on gender representations in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded awards in her field, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency an online platform dedicated to education, which examines gender roles within pop culture, is run by Sarkeesian. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is the main goals of her organization. She also strives to raise awareness about problems like harassment and targeted attacks on women online. Sarkeesian graduated with a master's degree in political and social thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has spoken at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in gender issues and feminism since at a very young age. In 2009, while she was still studying at the University of Toronto, Sarkeesian created the website Feminist Frequency. The woman with ambitions to begin a web program that examined gender representations in video games and found herself the victim of an online harassment campaign. Although the incident did not deter her instead it only bolstered her resolve as a feminist critic of media. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to women's rights, she's been recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization which studies the portrayals of women within pop culture stories.
